Jamaica became a British Colony after Santiago (Spanish Jamaica) was captured from the Spanish during the mid to late 1600s. 🇯🇲🇪🇸🇬🇧
The British introduced a number of foods to the island, one of which was the well known Cornish Pasty. 🏴
Over time, the Jamaican Curry Patty developed to make these pasties more palatable to the local appetite. Fillings combined Indian curry spices from Indians who emigrated from British India with Cayenne Pepper, and Scotch Bonnet which is indigenous to Jamaica. 🇯🇲🇮🇳
The golden colour of the flaky pastry shell comes from the turmeric used in the production process! ☀️
